About Us
Aspen Flying Club unites a group of pilots and flight instructors with a large and diverse fleet of aircraft for flight training and recreational flying…all in a fun, friendly environment.
We take pride in our long reputation for quality, safety and service. Whether your goal is to fly for fun or to make it a career, we have the aircraft and instructors to match your aspirations. Come in and share our passion for aviation.
Aspen Flying Club’s roots go back more than 35 years. As one of the oldest and largest flying clubs in the metro Denver area, we enjoy a large membership, a large fleet of well maintained aircraft, and an excellent reputation in the aviation community.
Students and licensed pilots enjoy access to all types of aircraft and instruction. We offer everything from private pilot training, to tail wheel transition training, to twin engine ratings, basic spin and aerobatic training, to cross-country, instrument and mountain flying instruction. When conditions aren’t favorable for flying, students can take advantage of our state of the art, full motion flight simulator.
Our club members range from brand new students who have never set foot in an airplane, to highly experienced airline and military pilots. It’s quite a mix of experience, making for a unique learning environment!
Aspen Flying Club is conveniently located at Centennial Airport in Denver. We’re open 7 days per week. Please call in advance for a Discovery Flight or stop by for a tour or visit. We’re eager to meet you!
About Us: The History of Aspen Flying Club
The Club started as Aspen Air Corp., incorporated in Colorado in 1977. Aspen Air purchased the assets of then 12 year old Seven Nine Echo flying club which was started at Stapleton Airport. The assets included 5 aircraft and the club had about 35 members. From this austere beginning the club grew steadily.
By 1987, Aspen Air Corp had facilities consisting of a business office, offices for the club manager and chief flight instructor and a large training classroom. Aspen had a simulator room, an audio visual room, staff rooms and a lobby. Aspen Air began doing business as Aspen Flying Club. In 1987, Norm Osborne and Bud Gates became the sole stockholders. A year later, Sue Osborne became the club manager. Wendal Ralph was installed as Chief of Flight Operations. Wendal led the effort to establish Aspen Flying Club as a Part 141 school.
In 1994, operations moved to the Airplaza facility, and then in 1998 to its current location in Denver Jet Center East. In 1997, Larry Ramsdell purchased the business operation of Aspen Flying Club and some of the assets. The club remained under his leadership until its recent acquisition in 2012 by Greg Garvis and Chris Dillis.
Now under new ownership and management, Aspen Flying Club has a renewed energy. The facilities have seen extensive renovations, and our fleet of aircraft has grown in diversity.
